About Specky Scribbler
Hi there!
I’m Michelle O’Connor, or as I like to be called, Specky Scribbler.
That’s me there on the right (obviously).
I’m Specky with a K because I’m a speck of a human (see reference photo), I wear specs and I scribble words. Seriously, everything starts with scribbles on a piece of paper.
I’m a copywriter and tone of voice creator who helps organisations tell their story in the most effective way possible. I do this because I love the endless possibilities that words present us with.
Since starting out in 2016, I’ve worked remotely with clients all around the world, and I can’t think of anything I would rather do.
Wanna get really nerdy?
I started off in the academic world, where I completed a research-based M.Phil in Gender and Women’s Studies. My dissertation was about how female journalists in the nineteenth century showed their political allegiances through their use of language and phrases. This sparked my interest into the way we can use everyday language to suit our purposes, and show how malleable and changeable the English language is.
(I told you this was nerdy.)
From there, I worked in-house in various places as researcher, archivist and writer, before fully embracing the Specky Scribbler brand and starting my own company. Since venturing into the world of full-time Specky Scribbling, I’ve been lucky enough to work on some amazing projects with clients across a huge range of industries.
One of the things I love most is working with designers and visual thinkers, as our skill sets are complementary and we can learn a lot about different creative processes.
